Dove hunting leases in East Texas
Great dove hunting leases available for you or someone you know. Give me a call as soon as you can.
I have about 6,000 acres of pasture to lease for dove hunting that is divided into several 200 to 300 acres of pasture with great graveling areas and watering holes in each one. I'm looking for 10 guns at $500 per gun for the 2010 dove hunting season. You will be allowed to bring 1 guest and additional guests for $30 per day.
Y’all better jump on this quick because these leases will go fast. If you want to come take a look at it sometime, just give me a call and we can schedule a time for you to come out.
Dove hunting tips
Dove hunting is just about the simplest form of hunting for bird hunters. Your hunting license and Migratory Bird Permit is all you really need besides a shotgun, ammo, and a hunting lease.
What Gun
A dove-hunting shotgun does not need to be fancy, but you can spend as much of your budget as you wish. A 20-guage, 16-guage, or 12-gauge autoloader does the job with screw-in choke tubes. Use a pump, double-barrel, or over/under. But because doves are fast, hunters prefer autoloaders, allowing three fast shots before the dove gets out of range. By federal law, repeating shotguns must be limited to only three shells (plugged) while dove hunting.
Use small shot sizes, 7-1/2, 8, or 9. It doesn’t take much to down a dove. Probably the best all-round shot shell is a 1- or 1-1/8-ounce load of 7-1/2s, 8s or 9s.
You might use target loads, those used for skeet and trap. They are a bit more consistent and accurate.
Decoys
Place an array of decoys on the ground, in trees, and on fences.
Camouflage
Doves are keenly visual and can see hunters. Wear camo clothing appropriate to your surroundings. Dress to blend into your hunting field. Use a blind of natural, local materials.
Shooting
Pick a good stand and wait for doves to come within 30 yards.
Don’t move until a dove is within range. Doves spook at first motion. You may have time for one, two, or even three shots before they are out of range.
Shoulder your gun firmly. Rest your head on the stock. Swing through the dove, fire and follow through in one smooth swing.
Bring enough ammo. Dove hunters average three bagged birds per 25 shells.
